About Hollywood
Hollywood, the second largest city in
Broward County, is located between Fort
Lauderdale and Miami, and as a result, draws thousands of tourist of all ages and
nationalities each year. The proximity of the city to all of the major metropolitan areas
of southeast Florida and its wide variety of attractions and accommodations ensures that
all visitors, regardless of budget or personal preference, will have a wonderful vacation.
Hollywood also has excellent access by air, land and sea, with Port Everglades serving as the departure
point for many luxury cruises and the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood
International Airport just a few miles away.
The beaches of Hollywood are renowned for their sparkling white sands, and they extend
for seven miles along Hollywood’s Atlantic coast. Florida’s only Oceanfront Broadwalk is
located here, a twenty-seven foot wide pathway for walking, biking, and Rollerblading
bordered by dozens of open air cafes, restaurants and shops. The Broadwalk also contains
an outdoor amphitheater, which plays host to weekly live entertainment, and is the site of
many festivals throughout the course of the year, such as the Red, White and Bluegrass
Festival, the Fat Tuesday Festival and Fiesta
Tropicale, Hollywood’s answer to New Orleans. Hollywood’s beaches are also notable
as having earned the distinction of being the first Florida beaches named “Blue Wave
Beaches” by the Clean Beaches Council in
Washington DC.
The Downtown area of Hollywood is no slouch in entertainment and culture, either. The
Harrison Street Art and Design
District is home to an eclectic mix of funky boutiques, international and fusion
cuisine, and organizations such as the Art
and Culture Center of Hollywood, which hosts a number of contemporary arts
exhibitions, such as modern dance and multimedia installations. The nightlife of Downtown
is diverse, ranging from clubs with live jazz music and dancing to sports bars, from sushi
bars to glam clubs featuring electronic music and martinis.
Hollywood also has several casinos, due to its location as the headquarters of the
Seminole Indian tribe. The Hollywood Seminole
Casino features daily and weekly poker tournaments in Seven card stud, Omaha Hi-Lo
and Texas Hold-em, and the Hard Rock
Casino chain recently opened a 130,000 square foot casino, featuring thousands of
slot machines and fifty poker tables.
